Training Description
Basic Peer Support training helps departments develop or improve upon an existing
Peer Support Team. This educational training helps First Responders support their
colleagues who have experienced adverse effects of trauma or critical incidents as well
as general life stressors. Peer Support Training is 24 hours of training over a three (3)
day period. Training topics include:
● Introduction to Peer Support
● Peer Support Team Models
● Ethical standards behind Peer Support
● Mental Health stigma, myths, and facts
● Understanding trauma– Acute Stress Disorder to PTSD
● Developing your Peer Support Identity and Team
● Listening skills and attunement
● Crisis Intervention and Post-Incident Recovery
● Special Topics– suicide, substance use, and grief
● Role play scenarios
● Rest and recovery strategies
● Local and national resources
