The West Virginia Crisis Intervention Team collaborates with several critical programs to ensure comprehensive support for individuals in crisis and to enhance the effectiveness of first responders across West Virginia.
West Virginia Community-Based QRT
Quick Response Teams (QRTs) are multidisciplinary teams including first responders and peers in long term recovery. Following a non-fatal overdose, QRTs provide an in-person visit with the survivor to offer connection to treatment services. QRTs aim to reach survivors within the crucial 72-hour window following an overdose during which time individuals are most likely to consider treatment. These teams. These teams are growing in number, offering life-saving support in communities throughout the state.
Handle with Care
A trauma-informed initiative, Handle with Care connects schools and first responders to ensure children exposed to violence or trauma receive the appropriate care and support at school.
The Angel Initiative
Through partnerships with Help4WV, the Angel Initiative allows first responders to connect individuals with substance use disorders to treatment options, including transportation and insurance assistance.
LEAD (Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion)
LEAD offers law enforcement the ability to divert individuals with minor offenses into treatment or community services rather than the criminal justice system, promoting recovery over prosecution.
Peers Supporting Law Enforcement
Peer Recovery Support Specialists work alongside law enforcement in communities to assist in diversion efforts, providing compassionate care and reducing stigma around addiction. Programs like these increase access to treatment and foster stronger community relationships.
